Club Hunts
Our first club hunt at Vulcan State Forest was a solid success, with a good turnout of members and plenty of action in the bush. Hosted by Dom, the trip saw plenty of sign, some good harvests, and a few surprises along the way. Dom, ever the opportunist, dropped a pig, adding a notch to his belt for the first time in a very long time. Meanwhile, Dennis put some fresh venison in the freezer, bagging two young fallow, a great result for the conditions. Perhaps the most shocking event of the weekend was Grant, our committee’s "phantom" making a rare appearance, proving that he does, in fact, exist! A fallow buck and red hind were spotted, but despite our best efforts, they managed to give us the slip. With fresh sign confirming they’re still in the area, they remain key targets for our March hunt, so be ready for round two! The warm weather kept things interesting, with crows causing a racket and snakes making their presence known, reminding everyone to watch their step. Important Reminder for our March club hunt With our next club hunt set for March 28th–30th, all members need to be aware that DPI officers will be out in full force patrolling the state forest, cracking down on illegal hunting and unruly behaviour. Ensure you have:
DPI won’t take excuses, so make sure you’re squared away before heading out. All in all, our first Vulcan hunt set the tone for what’s to come, plenty of game, good company, and the usual mix of laughs and challenges. Looking forward to seeing everyone back in the bush for the next one, hopefully around a camp fire.
