With the forecast predicting a weekend of heavy rain in the lead-up, Vulcan surprisingly turned on a good weekend. Aside from a light misty drizzle, the weather held up okay, making for some prime conditions out bush.

The fallow had started to croak and the reds were beginning to roar, with some early morning activity to kick things off in the distance. We also heard some mid-day croaking after we ambushed a group of fallow deer that gave us the slip.

Hayden was back to his old tricks, bagging two fallow deer—including a unique looking Buck. The Buck pretty much found him. At first, Hayden and Bangor ignored the croaks, thinking it was Zee having a lend of them with his caller. Turns out it was the real deal. After a few croaks, Hayden had that Buck on the deck. Right place, right time.

Dom stirred up some chaos when he roused a red deer from her sleep right in the middle of a blackberry patch. One well-placed shot later, she was in the bag, finally breaking Dom's dry spell. Well done VP.

Capetta got stuck into the pigs, putting down an 80kg brute with Zee adding a vixen to the tally after she allowed him to take a few photos.

Jayden and Lindsay teamed up to take a great-looking fallow, with Remi (the GSP) showing she’s more than just a pretty face. She found a pig earlier in the trip and later helped track down the fallow, proving she’s really coming into her own as a tracking dog.

John Hegarty held down the fort at camp, keeping us informed on shooting activity near and far. 

All up, it was another successful outing for the crew, with good company, good country, and a solid haul to show for it.

April Hunt Reminder – Bondi State Forest

Our April hunt kicks off this coming weekend at Bondi State Forest. Accommodation is set at $40 per person, per night at Bondi Forest Lodge, please remember to bring cash.

The forest is fully booked and with the rut in full swing, we’re expecting plenty of action. Should be another great weekend.
