The May hunt saw the crew venture into Hampton State Forest, with a few also holding bookings for nearby Jenolan State Forest. While no animals were taken this trip, it wasn’t for lack of trying – or sightings.
Goats kept Bangor & Hayden entertained (and frustrated), confidently parading just over the fence line on private land where they knew they were safe. Zee lined up on a fallow at distance, but it wasn’t to be this time. As usual, the deer made sure they were mostly spotted from the car, and the ones that did show up in the field stuck to steep, punishing terrain that made stalking near impossible.
Pig sign was everywhere, vast sections of forest and private land had been torn up, showing that the local pigs are thriving and bold. The amount of fresh rooting was impressive, and promises good opportunities for future hunts.
Pon discovered a prime wallow hidden deep in the bush, the kind that dreams are made of. But he’s keeping the details to himself for now, guarding it like a fisherman with a secret spot.
A little reminder to watch out for Mushroom foragers. Luke reckons they were popping up faster than excuses at the end of a missed shot, and for once, those were the only things not trying to dodge us.
All up, it was a hunt filled with promise, sign, and near misses. No bags filled, but plenty of intel gathered and groundwork laid for next time.
