Why Firearm Owners Must Vote to Protect Their Rights and Traditions

For firearm owners, voting is more than just a civic duty; it is a means of defending our rights, lifestyle, and family traditions. Across Australia, governments continue to introduce restrictive laws targeting law-abiding shooters, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts. The recent bans in WA, bureaucratic overreach in QLD, and regulatory oversteps in NSW serve as stark reminders that if we do not vote wisely, we risk losing the freedoms that underpin our way of life.

Western Australia's Attack on Firearm Ownership

WA has implemented severe restrictions, including banning large calibre rifles and capping the number of firearms a person can own. These laws, pushed through without proper consultation or supporting evidence, unfairly target responsible firearm owners under the false pretence of enhancing public safety. Instead of addressing criminal activity involving illegal firearms, these restrictions disproportionately impact those who follow the law, complete licensing requirements, and practice safe firearm storage. If WA's approach spreads to other states, legal firearm ownership could be under serious threat across the country.

Queensland's Unofficial Firearm Ban

In QLD, the Weapons Licensing Branch was accused of sneekly attempting  to deny permits for large calibre rifles despite no legislative changes being enacted. This attempted bureaucratic overreach is deeply concerning, as it suggests that unelected officials could try to restrict firearm ownership without proper legislative change. If such actions go unchallenged, it sets a dangerous precedent where authorities can arbitrarily limit firearm rights without consulting the people or the law.

The NSW Blue Groper Ban: A Warning for Gun Owners

NSW recently extended its ban on fishing for the eastern blue groper, the state’s official fish emblem. Initially introduced as a temporary measure following illegal spearfishing incidents, the ban has now been extended for an additional three years, despite scientific evidence showing stable stock levels.

This overreach serves as a warning; if the government is willing to ignore science and impose unnecessary restrictions on recreational fishing, gun owners must prepare for similar regulatory attacks. The pattern is clear; decisions are being made based on ideology, not evidence, and firearm owners are likely to be targeted next.

The Shooters Fishers Farmers (SFF) Party: Defending Our Rights and Traditions

The Shooters Fishers Farmers Party has been one of the strongest voices in NSW standing up against unfair restrictions for 30 years. They have fought to establish the Game Council, which opened up public land hunting in State Forests, oppose unnecessary firearm regulations, and hold government agencies accountable. Without their advocacy, the hunting and shooting community would have already faced far greater restrictions.

Hunting is more than a sport; it is a family tradition passed down through generations. Parents teach their children the values of conservation, respect for nature, and responsible firearm use. These traditions shape character, build resilience, and foster a deep connection to the land. The SFF understands the importance of preserving this way of life and ensuring that future generations can continue to experience ethical hunting and responsible firearm ownership.

The Power of Supporting Minor Parties

The major parties, Labor and Liberal/Nationals, have historically introduced restrictive firearm policies, often influenced by inner-city voters with little understanding of responsible gun ownership. By voting for SFF, firearm owners can maintain a balance in government, forcing policymakers to justify their decisions rather than impose laws without consultation. A strong crossbench keeps the government honest and ensures that our voices are heard.

Conclusion: Protect Your Rights at the Ballot Box

The threats to firearm ownership in WA, QLD, and NSW should serve as a wake-up call for all gun owners. The best way to prevent the erosion of our rights is to vote for those who actively defend them.

This is about more than just firearms, it’s about protecting personal freedoms, ensuring fair governance, and stopping government overreach before it’s too late. The choice is clear: vote wisely, support those who defend our rights, and hold the government accountable. Our hunting lifestyle and family traditions depend on it.
